Notification Center hangs on Macbook Pro 15

Has anyone had this problem.

Notification Center stops working. Clicking on the date/time gives the beach ball. Nothing happens.

Additionally, the swipe gestures stop working in the apps.

The only way to get out of the jam is to go into activity monitor and kill notification center. You do see a message that notification center is NOT responding.

Things return to normal, until you get another notification, or go looking for one.

Let me know if anyone has figured out why this happens and a possible solution.

The number of my instances have either a) gone down, b) I just stopped checking or c) the solution mentioned by jbryant705 above is working ... :-)

Try this .... "I had this issue too and I fixed it by completely resetting my user profile's Notification Center preferences. To do that, delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ncprefs.plist then restart your Mac."

It looks like you're experiencing some issues with Notification Center on your Mac. We will be happy to help.

Let's try the following:

Restart your Mac by choosing Apple menu > Restart. Test the issue after this.

If the issue still occurs, let's try booting into safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode. Test the issue after this.

If it persists, let's try making a test user account and testing in it: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Yes, Notification Center moves into a "Not responding" status for me on a MacBook Pro (16", 2019) every few days on Big Sur (11.1). Killing Notification Center in Activity Monitor fixes it temporarily, but it's still annoying. The console logs don't leap out at me as showing the source of the problem, although I didn't dig into them deeply.

Yes, same experience here. Nothing pointing as to what might be coming in the way to make 'Notifications' unresponsive.

Let me know if you do come across a solution. I will do the same.

Yeah, I've done that, and I've updated to Big Sur 11.2, and I'm still getting this happening. Happened yesterday, happened this morning. :/

You must have been lucky.

It didn't work for me. I was able to delete/reset the setting and after a restart, I did get a slew of notifications about apps and their notifications, so I know the reset worked. However, after a few hours, the problem was right back.

Thanks for the tip though, I wish it had worked.
