A2197 power cord does not fit

Very weird question...does Apple have "narrower" Lightning cables? My wife has an iPad (A2197) from her work, but the power cable provided in the box does not fit in the charging "slot". It looks like a standard Lightning (not USB-C) connection, but there are what look like shims on either side of the port that prevent the cable from going in.

Am I a complete idiot, or what's going on here??

Yes, A2197 on the back. We both have iPhone XR's and I'm assuming the cable/connector for that should be the same as the 7th gen iPad...

The port itself looks identical in exterior dimensions, but for the metal shims narrowing the interior (if that makes sense).

Very weird.

Since that unit comes from her work company, the only thing I can suggest is that she asks her company IT admin/supervisor about that strange port, demonstrating that she can't plug the standard lightning to USB cable in it.

No idea about that, sorry. But since I'm very curious, please keep me informed.
