Apple Watch software size - unable to upgrade

Ok folks. Don’t tell me to delete apps. Or music and photos. I have zero photos, images, videos or music on my Apple Watch 3.

I can’t upgrade because I have 4.7gb of space used. Is that the size of the software to run the watch??

or is there some old upgrade sucking up space? I can’t find info on the software size.

Unpair your Apple Watch via the Watch app on your iPhone.

Then Re-pair your Apple Watch, this deletes temporary and corrupted files

and also re-indexes the file system freeing up a surprisingly large amount of storage space.
