big sur mail search impossible slow

After upgrade to Big Sur I am experiencing an incredible slow search in mail program. After entering a phrase in the search box I can wait up to a minute or two to get the search results reflected. Is there any patch or fix for that?

It's not fixed.

Look at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252035294?page=15

It seems to happen more to Macs with multiple users, and is 100% reproducible: when one user logs off the other users lose mail search.

Force killing the process 'corespotlightd' will restore the search capabilities.

I have a 3 month old MacBook air I now won't upgrade because Big Sur has crippled the Spotlight search function on the mac I did upgrade - a 2 year old mac mini.

Would someone know how a problem this inconvenient (I depend on Spotlight) gets communicated to Apple and then fixed? And if a fix is unlikely, I'd be grateful for tips on how to return my mac mini to Catalina. For me this Spotlight problem outweighs all advantages that Big Sur offers.

I did the install of Big Sur about a month ago. My computer is open 24/7 so I would imagine the any re-indexing should be done now .... weird enough it looks like the first search I do in the morning takes FOREVER, but then is a bit more responsive until late afternoon.

Apple should probably have a look at what is going on here ... that install broke what didn't need fixing in the first place.

Brody, you are trying to advocate an obvious bug. Both IMAP and other methods are just the ways yo handle sync with the server mailboxes. I have a local copy of all the emails. It always worked perfectly, the problem started clearly with the upgrade to Big Sur. I have experimentally deleted all other account and just left iCloud - to see if that is a compatibility problem. And even then it won’t work. I have completely stopped using Apple Mail and need to keep 6 open tabs in a browser for all the email accounts I need. Apple must fix it ASAP, using Mac without proper email is a nightmare.

Brody, stop assuming we are all unqualified users here. I am a developer. I have done everything I could, to exclude various factors. Yes, I have tried searching without internet connection and my computer is 24/7 on so indexing must have been completed like zillion times since the upgrade to Big Sur. I have also rebooted and checked the power cord 😂😂😂
