Help. Mac book Pro with disc drive. NON Flashing question mark on folder on white screen. Clicking noise in upper right keyboard.

I attempted to open Zoom link that would not work. Turned the computer off and then back on and when it came on it was white, non flashing question mark and clicking. Please help. I also had a magnetic iPad keyboard sitting on the edged of the MacBook Pro keyboard at the same time. Could the magnetic keyboard from the iPad have done something??

Hey there dea dia,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand your Mac is booting up to a question mark on a folder. We’ll be happy to help with this.

The keyboard to your iPad probably didn’t have any impact on your Mac. To verify, have you tried booting into safe mode? If not, try that and see if this works:

Start up your Mac in safe mode

If not, the steps in the following article could help. It does mention this has a flashing question mark but the issue is so similar that these steps could work:

If your Mac starts up to a question mark

We hope this helps.

Take care. /
