I am going to get a new iPad soon and I have an old Apple Pencil (that on the box says compatible iPad 6th generation) - can I unpair this older pencil and pair it with the new iPad (is this pencil version compatible to the new iPad or do I need to buy a new 1st generation pencil)?

Here is the full compatibility list for Apple Pencil. You’ll see that the first generation Apple Pencil is used with iPads that use a Lightning connector. Only the 2018/2020 iPad Pro - or the newest fourth generation iPad Air use the second generation Pencil.
