Installed a battery, now won't install MacOS

I just installed a OWC generic battery for my MacBook Air 13" - 2011.

It starts up but now it won't install the OS.

It pops up with:

macOS could not be installed on your computer

An error occurred while updating firmware.

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

which I did to no avail, the same pop up.

Any suggestions?

I didn't think installing a new battery wipes the laptop?

It can be done as @ SandsOfArrakis mentioned BUT whatever version of macOS is now installed ?? it will attempt to download and install the same version of macOS. Since it appears from the first post, High Sierra was trying to install thus something Older macOS must already be on the drive or it would not display " macOS could not be installed on your computer " " an error occurred while updating firmware "

In my opinion, there are two (2) methods to wipe and clean install High Sierra ( last version compatible with this MBA 2011 ) Boot in Internet Recovery Mode ( Command + Option + r ) immediately upon boot up. Will require a stable and fast internet connection - ethernet is best. Once in, in Tool Bar at Top >> Utilities. On left side point it to the Upper most Drive usually APPLE SSD XX. Select it and Tools at Top Erase as HFS (Journaled ) and GUID Partition Scheme. Once done, back out of DU and presented with Install macOS. It will download the most recent version of macOS compatible with this machine. It will download and install then reboot and do the System Setup.

The other Option is have another Mac compatible with HS. Open this link in Only Safari. Read all the details to create a bootable installer of High Sierra. Once downloaded, stop there. If the installer opens, just close it. The earlier link will also show you how to create the installer. This method is better in my opinion

I did all that, no good, says it was installing for the next 11 hours and then it came up with a pop up saying missing components.

At first it tried to install High Sierra, but I got the missing components thing, then it tried to install Lion from recovery I guess. But still no good.

Now I've downloaded El Capitain on a usb drive, plugged it in, held down the option key while starting the Mac hoping it would give me the option of Macintosh HD and Install macOS El Capitain, but it didn't just went into recovery mode. I heard I should go to the top and allow Startup Security for the usb but that wasn't there, Firmware Password Utility was.

Now all I get is a Mac OS X Utilities box with: Restore from Time Machine or Reinstall Mac OS X (which doesn't work), Get help online or Disk Utility

Very frustrated and all I wanted to do was install a new battery

Installed a battery, now won't install MacOS
