Trade in

I am trying to trade in an old MacBook Pro, early 2011, last update High Sierra, and I want to wipe it clean, but directions say to reinstall Mac OS - but I don’t have any discs.

Trade in my Mac I'm trading in my iMac and erased the hard drive but couldn't reinstall the MacOS, is there any problem with that? I don't want to be charged for this! Thanks for your answer!

Seeing conflicting answers other places…trade in prep If my MacBook turns on but doesn’t have an OS on it (because I deleted everything per their instructions), can I trade it in like that? I did everything listed to prep my MacBook for trade in, but can’t get it to reinstall the OS…says there is no location to install it to. Do I need to get someone to work on it at the Apple Store to install an OS before I can send it in, or is it ok as long as it turns on? It’s 7 years old, so not like they will likely resell it or refurbish it anyway…this is likely a recycle. Thanks

The last time discs were used for OS X was with Snow Leopard in 2009. See instructions in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support and How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support
