I have a couple of videos of around 4gb on my iPhone, so I purchased 50gb of iCloud storage just now, but it still won't let me sync my videos to iCloud, getting the message that there's not enough iCloud storage. I have tried restarting my iPhone.

figured this one out by myself - simply signing out of apple ID on my iPhone and signing back in again did the trick. thank you for your replies.

Is it possible that there is a lag time between buying more storage and having that storage being provided for your use?
