If it shows up in the Finder's sidebar or Disk Utility, there will be an eject button by it; this is also available by choosing Computer from the Finder's Go menu, selecting it, and choosing Eject from the File menu.
If an item doesn't have any writable storage, it can generally just be unplugged.

I found the eject under the finder file but the eject was highlighted, does that mean the photo disk from the camera doesn't have to be ejected before removing? Thank you so much
If it shows up in the Computer window, it needs to be ejected first.
