Safari->Preferences->Advanced->check “Show Develop menu in menu bar”. A new menu bar item will appear named “Develop”. From the Develop menu select “Empty Caches”. From the menu bar select Safari and then select Clear History... and then select All History. Only your bookmarks will remain.
There is no directory to delete.
