Loosing contacts when I use iMessage

On my iPad Pro when I use iMessage, I am loosing contacts when I send a text. I type in the contact name to start the text and then the message but when I hit send instead of seeing the contact name in the list I only see the phone number and when I search my contacts the contact is gone. Then iCloud wipes it from all my synced devises. Help!

This has happened to my Dad who has finally recently adopted the iPhone! He tells me a particular contact has disappeared, which understandably kind of freaks him out. Kind of hard for me to explain, even being a tried and true Apple user for many years!

Not sure this this is a related problem or not, but periodically I find that some of my contacts in the phone and messages apps loose their contact names and it reverts to just the phone number. The name generally comes back after awhile, so I don't freak out about it too much, and the contact doesn't disappear, I don't think, because the phone number still shows up. Anyway, just wanted to through this in here. Maybe I should make a new thread for it.
