Logic 8 compatibility please.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if someone can, please, help here.

I have searched the different forums and I haven’t found a proper answer to help me with my issue. I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (snow leopard). I would like to update the OSX as Snow Leopard won’t allow me to use, properly, Google, Skype etc., currently I can’t even access the ICloud. What I would like, ideally, is a more recent OSX which would allow me to use the above applications but which is also compatible with Logic Pro Studio 8.

This will probably sound stingy but my laptop runs too well still to think about spending two grand on a new machine.

I have backed up the laptop and I am ready to format it and install the new OSX which hopefully will solve my problem.

Thank you very much in advance.

Any OS you install that'll make your required apps runproperly will kill your Logic 8.

My suggestion is to buy the largest SSD you can afford, partition it into 2. Clone your 10.6.8 OS back into one partition of your SSD and install a newer OS on the other half. Yes, you'll have to boot between OS's to do different things but the boot times with an SSD is so fast you may be able to live with it.

Logic 8 was a great iteration!!

Thank you so much mate, this sounds like a great option. I don’t mind having to boot differently to complete different tasks. In fact, when I am on Logic, I really am on Logic so I don’t really need google or anything else, I still use Recycle 2.0 a lot and that would also still run so, happy days.

thanks again mate, sincerely appreciate your input.

Sorry if I abuse of your time and knowledge but I have another question if that’s ok. When I do finally buy a new machine and Logic X, will I be able to access directly my Logic 8 projects saved in my current TimeMachine or will they need to be extracted first? Basically is any TimeMachine accessible by any Mac or each TimeMachine is only accessible by the original machine used to create it? Wow, I hardly understand myself what I am asking, hopefully it will kinda make sense to you. I am fairly confident around audio software and hardware but when it comes to anything else, I am absolutely hopeless (this is pretty clear by now).

Under 10.7.x there was a 'trick' to get it to run. People had varyng degrees of success when it came to 3rd party plugins and instruments but every time you want to run it you needed to do this...

Find your Logic Pro app and ctrl click (or right click on it)

Then click 'show package contents'

Then in the resulting folder, double click on 'contents'

Then double click on 'Mac OS'

Finally double click on the file named 'Logic Pro'....

In 10.8.x and above there was a black line of doom that followed the playhead.

**Sorry Wildrums, this was meant to be a follow up to my first post!!
