Safari crashes (hangs) every time I try to access mail.yahoo.com -- 99% of the mail home page downloads but it just hangs and never completes -- so now I use Camino...

Has anyone else had problems with Yahoo mail?

Macbook Pro, 2 Mini's, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

    Hi Krag,

Not only in Safari, if you open Yahoo! Mail in Firefox too, it is crashing. Please followt he below steps,
    1. Turn off if you have any Safari extensions turned on
    2. You just press escape button or x button in the address bar once Login and password boxes appear.
    3. If you are using your local regional Yahoo! Mail, like yahoo.fr etc. avoid it and use yahoo.co.in etc. It should work fine.

Please keep us posted how it is going on!

    All the best.

You can also try changing your DNS servers to one of these,
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

I have just seen this in one of these discussions.

Thanks for the OPEN DNS suggestion.
    DNS doesn't matter.
I used comcast first and then tried open dns and then google dns
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

Again, if it works OK in Firefox, Camino, Opera... but NOT OK in Safari, something is wrong.

    HI,

every time I try to access mail.yahoo.com

BrowserPlus causing problems with Yahoo mail. Go here for instructions to uninstall BrowserPlus.

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/browserplus/uninstall.html

Also, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies. Delete all Yahoo cookies.

From a Finder window select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file to the Trash.

    Relaunch Safari.

    Thanks!
So far so good, no lockups at mail.yahoo (the only website that did this).

Also noticed "Webpage Previews" - over 500Mb - deleted, what a waste of space (for me anyway)

    Thanks again.

(ps would love to see America's Cup in Bay Area)

    BTW
How to stop Safari from saving in Webpage Previews?

    Glad Yahoo is ok now.

Not sure if you can disable the previews, perhaps a Terminal command.

Just read somewhere else to "lock" the folder (Cmd-I)... will try that.
    Thanks again.

Carolyn, I saw this posted answer and possibly you can help me. This morning i tried to get into my Yahoo mail accounts and the sign up would not accept my ID or password. I don't know if I have a compromised computer (powerbook G-4 macos10.4.11 (tiger)

This morning I did go on to one of my accounts successfully, and did get one mail in my spam folder and it had something purported to be from Yahoo stating that i have been infected by a TROJAN HORSE and directed me to log on to my account--I DId NOT do  this and deleted the spam.

I changed my e-mail address with yahoo and still can't open the new ones. Yahoo is never helpful as you may know.

    Can you help?

Carolyn, I forgot to mention that I can access my yahoo mail from another computer.

    Thanks

    Carolyn,it's pompguy again.

I tried the trashing of cache db, and it did not help, perhaps this advice was not meant for my situation, but any, way the thing is back in the cache file and it is flashing as cache Db journal  and i can't get rid  of it. The original item is back also. It asks if I want to open it but i need an application?

    Thanks

This is pompguy again. Believe it or not, I think my yahoo mail problem has been solved(keeping my toes and fingers crossed)

what I did is uncheck the "keep signed in " box when signing in, and i can now access all my addresses.

It must be a bug and yahoo was no help as usual. (I must uncheck this each time i sign in)

Only question left is the flashing "cache DB journal" in the library, but assume this is not a problem?
