Hi, since upgrading to Big Sur emails (when replying) are much wider than the screen and can not be dragged smaller. I can go full screen but the email content still continues way off past the right edge of the screen and you can't even scroll to see it.
Any fixes people know of?

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Did you try Option-clicking the green dot at the top left of the window? Doing that is supposed to resize a window to a size that fits the screen. Once you do that you should be able to to resize it to a more comfortable size if needed. Does it not stick?
If this happens only with some e-mails, it may be due to some weird formatting of these e-mails.
Does it always happen with e-mails from the same source(s)?
It may be useful to take a look at the raw source of some of those messages that show this way, to see if there is something in the way they are composed that forces these long lines.
In most contexts involving text it is supposed to “flow” or “soft wrap”, ie change how lines are displayed so as to keep the width of the text within the available bounds. In your case soft wrapping appears to have been turned off. I tried to find any settings in Mail to activate or deactivate this but so far I haven’t been able to find one.
Does this occur with all messages? Does it occur as you type a new message yourself, for example?
Hi, it only happens with emails associated with one account. I have another account synced from the same source (cpanel webmail) which doesn't have the issue. I can't see any pattern related to the sender, there's more affected than not. I wouldn't know what to look for in the raw source, but I've included a sample from one affected email here. If ou're familiar with these things is it possible you could take a look? Emails redacted.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion, tried it but no joy I'm afraid. Doesn't happen on all emails so not sure what the variable is, hopefully it'll be fixed in an update. Might try re-installing the OS.
I'm not sure if this is related, but there was a post from about a year ago with a wide message window caused by the expanding space in the toolbar.
Ctrl-click on the Toolbar and choose "Customize Toolbar…"
Remove the flexible space (rectangle between items) by dragging it from the toolbar to below the toolbar.
Yes, that does seem to be the issue, though it doesn't explain what's happening with the window when it's not full screen. Thanks for checking!
