OS X Mail – lost Previous recipients

Almost all my Previous recipients in Mail have disappeared for no apparent reason. Only a few that were used recently remain. Based on previous correspondence to this forum and using Time Machine I have restored early previous versions of the files

MailRecents-v4.abcdmr-wal

MailRecents-v4.abcdmr-shm

MailRecents-v4.abcdmr

in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, but to no avail. Nothing changed. Obviously, the previous recipients are stored elsewhere.

I am using OS X 10.14.6 on a MacBook Pro.

Can anybody help?

Problem solved. Following the advice of Backspin on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7838502, I restored the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.corerecents.recentsd/Data/Library/Recents from a recent Time Machine backup.
