can apple gift cards be used for monthly installment payments?

its getting close to Christmas and I will be buying my wife a Macbook Air for college. We plan on purchasing with an Apple credit card and take advantage of the zero percent interest offer. Can apple gift cards be used to help pay the Apple credit card balance (monthly installments) for this purchase?
