Catalina Finder keyboard shortcut not working for Tags

I have a user-defined shortcut for Tags (control-option-command-t). It has stopped working.

I tried the Apple control-n shortcut where n is a number between 1 and 7 but that doesn't work either.

Hello StephenBD,

It sounds like you're needing help locating the files via tags that you've used in Finder.

For created shortcuts, it may be beneficial to delete it and restart your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off

Them try re-creating your shortcut: Create keyboard shortcuts for apps on Mac

Also if using this method, please be aware: Use tags to organize files on Mac

  • "Add a tag to the shortcut menu: Select the tag in the list, then drag it over the tag you want to replace in the favorites section at the bottom of the window. There can be up to seven tags in the shortcut menu that appears when you Control-click a file."

That should help to clear that up for you, but reach back out to the Community with further details if you need help.

Take care!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have created a new shortcut using a different key with Control-Option-Command. (It is the \ key). It works fine.

This strongly suggests to me that (as I said in my self-reply above) Catalina has prevented all these keys from working with Control-Option-Command...

As I was previously trying to use the t key, this seems to explain the problem I was having.

It's a bit annoying that so many keys have been blocked from use. It is not clear what Catalina is reserving them for. (I haven't tried Big Sur yet).

Thanks anyway.
