m4b audiobooks don't sync from MBP to iPhone

Hello,

I'm trying to sync m4b audiobook files (already on the Books app, Big Sur on MBP) and my iPhone X (iOS 14.2), but it doesn't work. PDF and ePub files do sync.

Here are a few screenshots:

What am I doing wrong? How can I sync these audiobooks?

Thanks!

Okay. Finally got it. If your audiobook is not already in .m4b format, convert it using AudioBookBinder in the Mac App Store. Then, take that .m4b file and use Waltr 2. It can be found here. A tutorial on how to use (very simple) is here. Basically connect your iPhone via USB (at least the first time) and then drag/drop the .m4b file. AudioBookBinder is free. Waltr 2 is free for 24 hours. So, if you want to use it more often than once, there is a charge.

I have contacted apple support. They said I can't sync m4b files because they were not purchased on the app store, and that's it. wtf?? I finally found the solution! I opened the Music app (previously iTunes), connected my iPhone, went to "sync settings", then to "audiobooks" tab and ticked the box for "sync audiobooks onto my iPhone". That's it! Done!

I've been racking by brain on this for about the last hour. It used to be so simple under pre-catalina (the old iTunes). If I connect my iPhone to my MBP to sync the audiobook, it wants to sync everything, which would remove all other media on my phone. That makes no sense. I can't share the file to Books on my iPhone from iCloud. Really at a loss.
