Cannot restore iphone X from iphone 12 mini (iOS 14.2.1 to iOS 14.1)

I recently purchased iphone 12 mini and have been using it for the last 2 weeks. However, it does not fit my needs and i decided to go back to my iphone X. Unfortunately, when i try and restore the latest backup from my iphone 12 mini (ios 14.2.1), i cannot proceed further. It seems that only iphone 12 mini has software 14.2.1 and iphone X only has 14.2 versions. Since the versions dont match i am unable to proceed with the restore. I do have a back up from 2 weeks back which i can go back to, but do not want to. Please help if you have any suggestions.

Backups cannot be restored to an iPhone with an earlier version of iOS than the iPhone that created the backup. You must restore the backup to an iPhone using iOS 14.2.1 or later. Right now, to do that, one of the four iPhone 12 models would be required to receive the restore.

Terrible support from Apple on this - both phones on latest ios for their respective models and yet no ability to restore a backup. I want to go back to my iphone x from the iphone 12 after Apple insulted me with a reassessed part exchange price and now I am faced with the same problem as yourself....it's almost like a Microsoft have taken over the software version management at Apple!! Sort it out Apple!
