Unable to import photos from iPad Air 2 to iMac -

iMac late 2013 ( Catalina 10.15.7)

iPad Air 2 ( iPadOS 14.2)

Plugged iPad to iMac, wanting to import photos from iPad to my iMac.

the iPad began to make a repetitive alert tone sound and on my iMac- in the finder sidebar, I could see iPad Air 2 flashing from showing to not showing.

Disconnected the iPad, and tried another usb cable ( only Apple usb cables - I have a few iPads )- the same issue occurs.

disconnected, then restarted iMac and restarted iPad.

repeated above but still the same thing occurs with the repetitive tone and flashing.

disconnected again, rebooted the iMac in safe mode. Attempted it again. Same issue happens.

I’ve read these articles

Resolve USB-related alerts in iTunes

all I’d like to do is import photos and videos from my iPad to the iMac ( there are a lot of them) and not sure why this is happening suddenly.

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I’ve imported photos before, without issue.

Thanks.

Decided to try importing photos from another iPad ( an iPad Pro 3 gen) and used the same USB cable without any problem. Also backed up the iPad Pro without a problem.

Plugged the iPad Air 2 in again, same USB, and it was flashing again with the alert tone sounding. . After a few minutes, it asked for me to hit “ Trust” on my iMac and iPad which I did. Then I entered the passcode on the iPad Air 2, and was able to import the photos to Photos app on iMac as well as do a backup.

Unsure what the problem was but it’s working now.
