Apparently I mistyped or forgot the 4 character passcode to my new M1 MacBook. Is there a way to unlock it ? I certainly don't want to render it useless when it is 24 hours old. I have 3 Macs, each has a slightly different 4 character passcode.
Any thoughts from the Community ?
Note: That would be a M1 MacBook Air or M1 MacBook Pro, there are no M1 MacBooks. The last MacBook model was the 2017 model.
Specifically, it was a Late 2020 M1 MacBook Air , but the procedure is the same for all of the laptops. It was loaded with the latest OS , 11.0.1 I think. I will post Apple’s response and solution shortly. Thanks.
That was a good try, the Caps Lock Key, but it did not work.
Since then, I have spoken to a Senior Advisor who managed to help me put the M1 MacBook into a Recovery Mode via Terminal, Typing , resetpassword, I think it was. The documents to recap this are on the way to me I trust.
However, I ran the Terminal command to Create a New Password and it worked.
All is well. I have 3 Macs in my office at this point & I think the thing that threw me was I thought each had to have a different 4 character login password. Not true. They can all have the same login password. So, All 3 now have the same 4 character login password.
One point of interest , I was unable to put the M1 Mac into the Recovery Mode using Restart and the pressing the Command R keys at the same time. I have never been good at this. Shutting it down and restarting with the Power On Key (the finger print key is held down) , managed to help me a lot.

My first thought based on my usual error with hidden or *** passwords is to try the CAPS LOCK options.
