why can't I get into my ipad, haven't used it for months, but now the Activation Lock is on and I can't get rid of it.
I can't get past the Activation Lock, so can't do anything. so darn frustrating

You must use the Apple ID and Password used to set up the iPad. Activation Lock is a theft prevention feature. Perhaps these links may help...
