Question

How to synch 8th generation iPad running iOS 14.2 with iMac running Maverics 10.9.5. Both devices are logged and signed to same iCloud account.

New 8th generation iPad 2 days old - want to synch to my iMac and transfer music to it. Will also want to back it up completely to ythe iMac including passwords.

When iTunes starts on the iMac a message says the " iTunes could not connect to this iPad. You do not have permission. "

Oddly my iPhone 7 running ios14.2 does connect to the same iMac and synchro through iTunes.

Anty ideas?

Resolved the issue by upgrading os to High Sierra. Thankfully it does not cripple all the Adobe apps. The newer os is a lot more slick than the old Mavericks.

Apple reloaded the iPad iOS for me but that did not help.

Not really possible. You need a minimum of El Capitan to sync with the modern iOS.

Thank you for the quick response.

The OS upgrade is something I have avoided for fear of my legitimate copy of Adobe CS6 not functioning.

Off topic I know but will CS6 work with El Capitan?

http://www.roaringapps.com/ should answer that question. Most any software that runs on 10.9 should run at least through 10.12. Apple didn't make any major modifications from 10.8 to 10.12, except in the areas of notifications, and security of the web browser. 10.13 is where it starts getting complicated, as Apple makes solid state drives take on a new formatting, and 10.15, you need to have 64 bit applications.

If you clone backup your data before installing, you can always test the upgrade and see if it works, and downgrade by booting off the clone if it doesn't. Option key allows you to boot off an external drive.

I have taken the new iPad back to the Mac Store for them to restore the software. My iTunes version was not able to access the iPad and the iTunes will not upgrade.

You could have installed latest iTunes for windows on Bootcamp(Win 7, 8 & 10) or Windows on a PC or in a virtual machine on your Mac if you have one also and restored your iPad through that,
