MacBook Air stuck on mute

Does anyone know how to get their Mac off of mute other than taking it to apple? I cant uncheck the box in settings or change the volume at all. MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) or is apple just trying to force me to spend money I don't have on a new computer?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.0

Reset SMC How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

Reset NVRAM Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Restart holding Shift to enter Safe Mode (it's a longer boot) and check if sound works there.

Restart normally and check if it got any better.

Also try a clean install of macOS to see if it helps.

If none of those work, you'll have to take it to an Apple Store or authorized for a proper diagnostic.
