Final Cut Pro X crops PSD files

Why is Final Cut Pro X cropping every single layer of my PSD files? There's any way of respecting it's actual size, even if the layer surpass the canvas size? With Final Cut Pro 7 there was no problem at all. Thanks

Thank you for the replies!

A friend just e-mailed me a solution: After importing the psd file into FCP, select the layers and unmark the 'Crop' option in the 'Video inspector' window.

I wish there was a way to make this unmarked by default, but at least there's a way to make it work.

I did a quick test and I got the same results.

Pixelmator Pro can access the contents outside the frame, but FCP crops every layer to the dimensions of the frame.

It looks like the workaround is to make the canvas as big as necessary to hold all the content, and then place it in the timeline with Spatial Conform set to None. That way all the content of the psd file comes through and you can edit into your FCP project.

This is worth writing to feedback.

Thanks for coming back with the solution. I find that after I reset each parameter for each layer, then it works fine, and quitting and restarting FCP does not undo this.

Instead of just disabling Crop, I actually turned each of left, right, top and bottom to zero. This is a slightly different approach from what Tom just described. I expect that either should work, but just in case, it may be worth having two options.

Hi Tom, thanks for the quick reply. The PSD it's not cropped and doesn't have a vector layer. I just made a test with a new 1280x720 px file, in which I created a square n a new layer and scalated until it was bigger than the canvas size. Saved it and imported in Final Cut Pro X 10.4. in a High Sierra OSX, which didn't recognized the actual layer size and cropped it to 1280x720... I tried the same thing in a newer computer with Big Sur OSX and Final Cut Pro X 10.4.9 with the exact same results.

If I try this same psd file with Final Cut Pro 7 in an older Mac with Mavericks OSX, doesn't have any problem detecting the pixels outside the canvas. So, I think it's not a problem of the psd file. Any ideas?

Hi Tom, if I try to right click on the 'Crop' option and choose Restore presets, it does nothing (because it only reset the parameter options below). Once I save and reopen FCP the Crop option is marked by default again. I don't know if that's what you mean with the reset button (I don't have the english version, so maybe the button it's not named the same way).

I also tried looking into the Preferences without any success.

Thanks

Hi Tom, now I understand. What I was looking for is a way to umark the crop button by default because I have to work always with layers bigger than the canvas size, and I never need to crop anything in FCP.

Anyway this is a minor problem, the main issue is solved. I always used an older version (Final Cut Pro 7) and the new one seems very strange to me since the interface is quite different. I'm considering an update but I have to be sure if I can work properly on it.

Thanks
