M1 Mac Mini, Displays wont turn on after wake from sleep

Ive a brand new M1 mac mini with 2 external displays 1 on USBC and another on HDMI. One is a samsung 32 4k and the other is an asus 28 4k. Both work perfectly with the mac ordinarily, however on wake from sleep often one or both of them wont turn back on. Turning them off and on doesn't seem to help but unplugging and replugging the cables into the back of the Mac Mini seems to get them working again. This seems to be rather random, sometimes its just one monitor sometimes its the other, sometimes i get graphical glitches on one of the screens (agains fixed by unplugging and replugging the monitor cable into the back of the mini). To me this seems like a software glitch with the graphics drivers I would assume the next update will fix this. I just wanted to flag it up to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

I just saw an article today on MacRumors about the most recent seeding of 11.2, which gives me hope because it included the following:

"When ‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 sees a release, Apple apps will be compatible with VPN apps and will no longer be able to bypass firewalls and other security tools.

According to Apple's release notes, the update also improves Bluetooth reliability and includes multiple bug fixes.

‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11.2 improves Bluetooth reliability and fixes the following issues:
- External displays may show a black screen when connected to a Mac mini (M1, 2020) using an HDMI to DVI converter
- Edits to Apple ProRAW photos in the Photos app may not save
iCloud Drive could turn off after disabling the ‌iCloud Drive‌ Desktop & Documents Folders option
- System Preferences may not unlock when entering your administrator password
- Globe key may not display the Emoji & Symbols pane when pressed

The update addresses a bug that could cause external displays to show a black screen when connected to an ‌M1‌ ‌Mac mini‌ using an HDMI to DVI converter, and it fixes an issue that resulted in edits to Apple ProRaw photos in the ‌Photos‌ app not to save. It also includes fixes for ‌iCloud Drive‌, System Preferences, and more.

Unlike my 2018 Intel Mac mini where the computer wakes but not the display, the 2020 M1 Mac mini does not wake (ssh cannot connect and times out) and so the monitor does not wake. My solution for the M1 is to push the power button twice and then both the mini and the monitor wake. My power button is at the default (ie it functions to sleep the mini).

I just wanted to update my earlier issues I experienced with my new M1 MM not waking. I bought a new M1 MM (2tb - 16gb) on Jan 16, 2021, and it would not wake from sleep. It would turn on fine if it was shut off. Tried LOTS of things and after working on the new M1 MM for two weeks, with all levels of tech and engineer assistance, I returned the new M1 MM to Apple and had the exact M1 MM model and setup sent to me again. The new one has worked flawlessly right out of the box. One month later...never had one issue. New Logi MX keyboard for mac and Logi MX Master3 mouse working on Bluetooth. No Bluetooth issues either. KB and mouse are 18" -24" from M1 MM. I am using my LG 32UN880 monitor with an HDMI cable to save one of the M1 Thunderbolt/usb4 ports. I have a 2tb Sandisk SSD (550Mb/s) connected to the M1, on one of the thunderbolt/usb4 ports, and always on. I also keep connected an older usb3, 2tb WD passport SSD connected to the M1, on one of the usbA ports, and always on. The waking issue for me likely had to be a hardware issue as all software, cable, positioning, timing, etc... was ineffective at solving the waking issue. I only use this for Adobe PS, LR, and some light music and video youtube stuff. Good luck to all who have issues. This new M1 has been working flawlessly, so I guess I will keep it. If I would have had 1 iota of issues, I WOULD have sent it back again and waited for the new M1X.

My new Mac Mini M1 would not wake up until I removed the USB C FlePow hub from the computer. With my USB 3.1 hub and my logitech camera and headset plugged into the hub, the Mac Mini would not wake up. Now, I have to keep the hub unplugged in order to be sure the computer wakes up. Then I plug the USB hub back in when I need those devices. Same problem with other hubs I tried.

I have been having problems with my M1 mini: Both that the screen will not wake up if the power saver has put it to sleep and also that my bluetooth keyboard has been bogging down severely, usually when I am trying to wake up the monitor. I have made two changes that seem to help, though i have not worked to isolate the problems further.

I replaced my (third party) uni directional usb-c to displayport cable with a 3' bi-directional Amazon Basics cable. I have had no problems with the display waking up since.

Secondly, I read that it is possible for bluetooth devices to be too close together, so i have increased the distance between the Mini and (the Logitech keyboard & Apple trackpad). Currently, that distance is about 18"; and I have had a single reoccurrence of the bluetooth issue, which is a vast improvement.

I have the same issue with my M1 mini using the HDMI port - will not wake up after display sleep (prevent computer sleep is off in Energy Saver). Have upgraded OS to 11.3.1 but that did not help. Am using a high quality 8k HDMI cable and have tried several other cables, nothing seems to help. Have gone back to using the USB C port for video which works fine but then I lose a USB C port. Am using a BenQ SW271 4k monitor.

My issue is also with the display attached via USB-C. It began after the 11.3 update and persists with 11.3.1.

Disabling "Displays have separate Spaces" did not fix it.

What appears to have fixed it for me was to swap the display priority. Making the USB connected display primary, and the internal HDMI secondary.

I was having this problem and greatly improved it by getting a bidirectional thunderbolt to viewport cable. Amazon Basics sells one. It has happened a couple of times since I replaced a unidirectional cable, but turning the screen off and on works now without disconnecting it. I would also look at separating the display cable from power cables to avoid interference. I’m not sure this matches your setup, but hopefully it helps.

I have similar issue. Only obvious difference to OP is that I do have only one external display (LG TV) connected to my Mac Mini (2018), Big Sur 11.5.2 .

Typically it won’t turn on display after going sleep (sometimes even after a few seconds) in approx. 25% attempts.

The most strange observation is that if I exit Safari before Mac goes to sleep, this issue does not occur anymore, at least 20 times in a row.
