M1 Mac Mini, Displays wont turn on after wake from sleep

Ive a brand new M1 mac mini with 2 external displays 1 on USBC and another on HDMI. One is a samsung 32 4k and the other is an asus 28 4k. Both work perfectly with the mac ordinarily, however on wake from sleep often one or both of them wont turn back on. Turning them off and on doesn't seem to help but unplugging and replugging the cables into the back of the Mac Mini seems to get them working again. This seems to be rather random, sometimes its just one monitor sometimes its the other, sometimes i get graphical glitches on one of the screens (agains fixed by unplugging and replugging the monitor cable into the back of the mini). To me this seems like a software glitch with the graphics drivers I would assume the next update will fix this. I just wanted to flag it up to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

Disabling sleep does not work. I have seen this posted multiple times. I have disabled sleep in an effort to get my LG Widescreen monitor to be awakened by my M1 Mac Mini as well as tried every other way to get this to work and it just flat out doesn't work. Apple has a bug on their hands with this. I would advise against ANYONE buying the new M1 Mac Mini until Apple can address this issue. Any "time saved" by the processing boost of the M1 chip is more than offset by the constant rebooting and plugging-unplugging monitor cables all day just to get your desktop back when you step away for longer than 15 minutes.

Same sleep (and the bluetooth) issue with my Mini M1 connected to a Dell UltraSharp 38 monitor. I have neither issue w my MacBook Pro or the Mac Mini (intel) my M1 replaced.

Yup looks like the common theme is usc-c (Mac) to DP (monitor) which I was using as well. I just switched to hdmi to hdmi and no issues but it's only been part of a day. Thought about USB-C to USB-C but as you mentioned would like to keep the USB-C's open (have an ext ssd on the way)

Was hoping the recent 11.1 update would have fixed the separate bluetooth issue but it didn't. Good luck!

Having this problem as well, however it has only just started. Was find for first few weeks. I have 2 Samsung 28in monitors connected, one through cdmi to cdmi, one USBc to display port. The monitors don't have USBC ports so this is my only option.

I do have the seperate spaces enabled, which is what I like this effectively gives me 4+ monitors.

I am running 11.1 so it obviously didn't get fixed in that update

My problem is still occurring, and have been working with tech support from Apple. The latest suggestion was to use the Apple multiport adapter instead of the adapter I was already using. So far, it doesn't solve the problem, just changes the appearance of the problem. My computer still has difficulties waking from sleep, but now the screen just disconnects completely when it happens. The HDMI-ported screen works fine with no problem. The USB-C monitor is the one with the problems, with or without separate spaces.

The only monitor connection that I've found works on both the 2018 Intel and the 2020 M1 Mac minis is HDMI. I've had issues with USB-C to DP, USB-C to VGA using Apple and non-Apple adapters and different brand monitors (Acer, Philips, Chimei, BENQ).

There was a long thread about the 2018 Mac mini with users mentioning they were working with support, but the monitors not waking from sleep issues were never resolved. It looks like the 2020 M1 Mac mini is going to go down the same road given Apple has been unable to resolve the issues since 2018 :(

This is interesting. How is using a USB-C hub any different than using an adapter? Why would that solve the problem? I used a Belkin adapter, and the Apple multipart, and still have some version of this issue. How does the mini hub make this any different?

As someone else has said, exactly what hub did you use, because if this works, you're about to make them a lot of money.

So after my last conversation with Apple Tech support, they notified me that this is a known problem, and they are working on it, but do not have a time frame for it. As of right now, using the Apple Multipart adapter, my problem has been reduced to the USB-C monitor just not being recognized, but turning the monitor off and on semi to fix the problem. I also bought the XSPUS 8 port adapter mentioned above and have installed it to see if it makes any difference. So far, so good, but it's only been two days.

I'm thinking the same thing about a powered hub and the mac turning off power to the ports, but then I also think, if the hub is powered, and it is still connected to the port on the computer that goes to sleep, is it going to matter at all if the port itself still sleeps? I am lucky enough to be able to minimize the problem so that all I have to do is turn my monitor off and on every few days or so as a remedy. I think at this point, I'm just going to have to wait for the next update. Kind of annoying with a computer and monitors that are about a month old now, but that'll teach me to get the first model of a new computer/OS right out of the gate. lol

Abandon all hope of any fix - my 2018 Intel Mac minis still have the issue (there are long threads on these forums about that).

What I've found works (for me) is to ssh in from my 2012 Mac mini (running FreeBSD, but I doubt that matters) which wakes the Mac mini and also the monitor. I also have "Wake for network access" set in Energy Saver in Preferences.

I'm experiencing the same problem on my MacBook Air 13.3 M1. I have currently 5 monitors connected to it:

Using native single exrernal screen:

1 x Dell 2515H via HDMI port on UGREEN 9in1 hub on MBA M1 top USB-C port

Using DisplayLink

2 x Dell 2515H via StarTech DP 2K hardware

2 x ASUS ZenScreen MB16ACE portable USB-C monitors connected via USB-C to USB 3.0 adapters that came with the monitors that are plugged into another Kensington 7 x USB 3.0 HUB on bottom MBA M1 USB-C port.

So, I'm getting 50/50% of times my native display won't come out form sleep whereas 4 those on DisplayLink always do (rarely it would only swap screens' content to other side but I find it a good thing as my neck doesn't rotate too much one side only as well as pxiesl don't burn all the time in the same places).

I don't intend to disable sleep because that's what it's for. I want to put everything into sleep when am away from my desk or sleep in the room at night and wake all up in the morning to start work. This will also extend life of monitors and is more Eco IMHO.
