Carrier Unlock

Hi, a friend of mine is using an iphone xs and he wishes to carrier unlock it but he doesn't know how to

so can you help him do that? The sim card which the iphone came in was AT&T (USA).

I think he has to contact AT&T and ask them to unlock it for him.
