2020 Macbook Pro overheating

I have had the Macbook Pro 2020 13" model for about three months now and it continues to overheat to the point where it's unusable. I have got it checked for viruses/ malware as I know that can take a lot out of the laptop but there isn't any sign of one. I also usually have to keep only one app open which is incredibly annoying as I'm a creator and usually need more than one program running, funnily enough I can't even have two Firefox windows open at full brightness and one bar of keyboard lighting on. Would be very greatful if you could get back to me, thank you!

Hey there Deadvenom666,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand your Mac is getting warmer than expected. We’ll be happy to help with this.

Start by reviewing this article for this concern:

Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

This is going to cover checking Activity Monitor, indexing Spotlight, resetting the SMC and much more. See if this has any affect on the issue you’re experiencing.

Take care.

Are you running a third-party virus checker that scans your files non-stop, looking for patterns that match antique Windows Viruses?

That is a common cause of un-anticipated resource-wasting and overheating on modern Macs, and completely unnecessary.

Hello and thank you for the quick reply,

Though I have already checked all these solutions, I already googled a bunch looking through articles and reddit posts etc. Nothing seems to be popping up in my activity monitor and it's still having issues which makes me think that it's a malfunction from the get go. I have had it for about three months and have been trying to trouble shoot as much as I can.

The only option I haven't tried is updating to the next software as I learnt in school and from people with Macbooks that doing so can cause the laptop to crash, either meaning I lose everything or have to get it fixed for a waste of $200.

At first I just thought the newer 2020 model of the Macbook pro was cheaply designed or purposely under engineered, but not everyone is having this same issue?

I've had a MBP 13" 2020 for less than 2 weeks, use it only for Safari surfing and email. I had been having exactly the same problem from day one; fan running loud and hard, computer very warm on bottom and top. I talked to Apple Care about 6 times and got t nowhere, they even told me they are not aware of this happening to anybody else ! So today after spending some hours trying to find a solution on the net I did the following and the temp went instantly for 89C to 44C and has stay there for the last 2-3 hours.

1) disable Google Chrome Helper following this https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-google-chrome-helper

2) uninstall/trash Chrome browser

3) Go back to Activity Monitor and manually select GCHelper and click the X on top to Stop it once and for all

4) Restart computer and check if GCH doesn't show in Act Monitor anymore

5) Check if temperature changed using Intel Power Gadget App (free) and be happy ☺️☺️☺️!!!!!!

6) Do a happy dance ☺️☺️☺️!!!!!!
