hello - I have MACoS Catalina - i also have a macbook and the thunderbolt to USB C cable - i am trying to connect my two displays to use one as a external monitor but it does not work, can anyo0ne help?

You can not use Target Display Mode.
You can only use Screen Sharing or a VNC over your local network.

If Screen Sharing is not what you want, then you will need to get an external monitor to use with the MacBook.

If Screen Sharing is not what you want, then you will need to get an external monitor to use with the MacBook.
You cannot, Target Display Mode was discontinued in 2014, the last models that would work were 2014 models. In your case, get yourself an external display which is much easier to connect, get to work and much more reliable.
It may not be working for you, because only certain older iMac models supported Target Display Mode.
Thank you for the reply - so if my mac is 2016 running macOS catalina and my macbook is the same how do i sue the imac screen as a second display?
