what does a dot beside an app in launchpad indicate

I'm trying to install an app from the app store. when it shows up in launchpad, there's a blue dot on the left side of the newly installed icon. when i try to open the app, i get an error report box...any ideas???

CORRUPT APP: Why does it say OPEN on my app when app REMOVED? HELP - Just spent 35 minutes with Apple support and got nowhere. myCigna shows "OPEN" in the App Store, but is NOT installed. (or at least it's not showing). I've checked in DEVICE STORAGE, APP STORE, APP LIBRARY - nowhere to be found. Upon RESTARTING, the app REAPPEARS with the default icon (white with cross hatch). Downloaded game has circle with white dot on lower left I recently downloaded an app. It has a white circle with a white dot in it on the lower left hand side [of the icon on the home screen]. What does this mean? I downloaded another game, and it doesn't have this circle with a dot in it. I spent the last half hour googling and nothing came up (except for the other stuff that I already know: Circle with Line through it, red dot, blue dot, etc.)

ok, i figured out the blue dot next to the app's name...

but that really isn't my issue...

it seems that no matter what app i dl from the app store, the app crashes on start up.

that's my real issue...

any ideas?
