AT&T DATA

I purchased my ipad about 30 days ago and am enjoying more than I thought possible. I however am very disappointed that if you don't use all your data in 3o days that AT&T does not let you keep it. It hardly seems fair that if you pay for so many MB's and don't use it all that you lose it. Does anyone else feel this way?

I don't mean to sound harsh, but seriously, are corporations established to giveaway their products to users or make money for their shareholders? The complaints about the 3G data plan came and went in 2 weeks. AT&T is cashing those checks. That's capitalism.

Unless you have an ironclad contract with AT&T that said they would give you unlimited data forever, then what they did was legal, moral and appropriate. And seriously, as corporations go, AT&T is no BP in terms of business ethics.

True, but it is still a pretty dick move to say in the original presentation of the device that you would provide a very beneficial service, then retract that after it goes into use. It is baiting customers to buy something that they might not have a use for. If I knew that AT&T would drop data plans they originally offered, then I would have probably bought a larger iPad with wifi instead of a smaller iPad with 3G+wifi.

Nope, it's business, not a "dick move." Remember, most people don't use that much data. I checked back as far as I could for my iPhone, and I never got over 700MB. That's with push email, lots of checking of sports scores, and looking medical information. I considered for a nanosecond downgrading to a capped amount, saving myself $5.00. Just didn't think it was worth it.

AT&T, by controlling bandwidth, which is NOT free, it has a huge fixed cost, allows more people to use the system. Those who use a lot, should pay a lot. Those who don't use a lot of data shouldn't be subsidizing those who do.

It is not a "bait and switch". Those who bought when data was unlimited can still do. I do for example. I live with the $30/month charges.

I am not going to argue about whether it is bait and switch. You decide for yourself if a plan switch like this one is:

Initially there was no date before which you had to buy your iPad or else never get unlimited.
Initially you could plan to buy an iPad later in the year and believe you would be able to get unlimited.
Initially I was selling my home and being on double mortgage, and was faced with no dilemma of having to buy an iPad now, or never get unlimited.
Initially there was no clause saying you had to renew every month to maintain unlimited, or never get it again.
All that changed with an announcement June 2nd.

Now while it is true AT&T does not have the bandwidth to have unlimited, it is not our fault they did not think about it when they offered the first program.

So decide for yourself if a business has a right to dictate your buying habits or not.
