I have never had issues, but ever since the last iOS update, weird things have been going wrong with my MacBook Air. The worst one is that I cannot open my files at all--whether it is Word, Pages, or Adobe. Any advice? I have done force quits and rebooted the computer.

First, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:
Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Possible issues could be the Apps in question need to be updated example Pages 10.3.5 is available on the Apps Store. As to Word and others similar issue - updates to compatible Big Sur versions.
I just checked, and all of my apps are up to date.
Are the files in question stored Locally ( Internal Drive ) or on iCloud ? If on iCloud, make sure iCloud is enabled.
