Calendar app

The calendar app on my iphone7 has a red circle on it with number 1 inside. Why? And how do I remove it?

Sounds like a calendar invite, or something that would be appearing in your Calendar inbox. Open calendar, look at the bottom right corner of the page there is Inbox. See if there is a number there, then tap on it and it will open the calendar inbox. It will show you what the invite is. Be careful it is not Spam.
