as the problems started 3 days after purchase and considering all Apple stores in the UK are closed due to COVID I was legally entitled to either, a full refund or a replacement. I opted for a replacement and haven’t had any problems for the last 2 weeks. Hope you get yours sorted 👍

Update: Apple replaced the sleeve for me within 2 working days and everything seems to be working fine so far.

Well, I’ve already returned mine, but I can tell you this.....if your phone is already up to date with the latest iOS, try turning off your phone then turning it back on. Should work for you afterwards. The problem with apple at the moment is that they don’t even seem to know that the sleeve is supposed to recognize the phone when inserted. ****, half of them don’t even know that they sell a leather sleeve for the iPhone 12. I learned this after talking with multiple people in support for over 3 hours one night. Good luck.
I am having the same problem. My iPhone 12 Pro Max is not recognizing that it is inserted into the iPhone 12 | 12 Pro Leather Sleeve with MagSafe.
It is my understanding that the leather sleeve has an integrated NFC chip, which can be read by the NFC reader on the iPhone 12. When your phone is inserted into the case, the iPhone knows that a sleeve was put on, and iOS will trigger an animation on the phone's display. The phone's display will dim, and the time will illuminate and color-match to the case.
For example if you put on the Baltic Blue case, the phone's background will be a dark blue, and the clock will be tinted blue as well. A Saddle Brown case will turn the display brown, etc.

I purchased the leather sleeve for the 12 pro max direct from the online apple store. After 3 days it has stopped being recognised by the phone. I have tried all of the obvious troubleshooting tasks more than once but to no avail.
I was worried it could be something to do with the NFC in the phone but this appears to be working as normal.
I contacted apple through their chat service who are going to call me back. I would be happy with a replacement as opposed to a refund, the case is great and offers superb protection for a phone that cost £1,100.00
Mine recognizes that the phone has been inserted about 60% of the time. Maybe the sleeves just don’t work reliably and consistently?

I am having the same issue with my leather case. The iPhone doesn't recognize it when it's installed. How were you able to get a replacement? I called Apple support and they told me I had to take it to an Apple store to get it looked at.
Mine also, I think that’s just the way they are so I have accepted that. It’s a shame though as these are very expensive. Still the best way to protect my phone and the quality of the leather is second to none 👍
My sleeve stopped working one month after purchase. I have tried Apple chats, calls, etc., and they kick me around from one to another. Shops mostly closed due to COVID. So I am left with a sleeve not working and cannot get a response. Reset won’t work. Never had this lack of response from Apple to be honest.
