Mail quits immediately on launching

Mail now quits immediately on launching. Have tried launching with shift key pressed which keeps Mail on screen for a few minutes only. Running OS10.11.6 so I can keep using Aperture. How can I access mail boxes stored on my iMac (2009)

iMac, OS X 10.11

For the first email account, click the Advanced... button.

What is shown adjacent to Hostname?

Then, click Cancel, and de-select the checkbox adjacent to Mail in that account. That will temporarily disable that account in Mail. It will not affect the email account in any way, it will just turn it off in Mail. It can be turned on again by re-selecting that checkbox.

Launch the Mail app and determine if you can select its Inbox without it crashing.

The idea is to isolate the cause to one or the other of those email accounts.

Please open (Apple menu) > System Preferences... > Internet Accounts.

In the leftmost column, select the service responsible for your email account. Without revealing your email address, your name, passwords, or anything else you might consider personal, describe what you see on the right side of that window. I realize those instructions may strike you as vague but please describe as much as you can.

At your option, you may post a screenshot of that window but you must obscure the aforementioned personal information because this is a publicly available website in which personal information must never be revealed. Instructions for capturing, editing, and uploading a screenshot to this site please refer to the Appendix in Writing an effective Apple Support Communities Question - Apple Community.

Following instructions this is what I see In left panel with Orcon provider:

e-mail address: my e-mail address

Description: my e-mail address again

Password 11 characters

Use with: Mail & Notes

With iCloud account:

I see several apps with tick boxes; Those ticked are:

iCloud, Mail, Contacts, Calenders,Safari, Notes, Keychain,

I have now pinpointed the problem as being the main IN box. Mail does not crash if I do not click on the In box. However I can click either of my mail accounts that appear as sub folders of the IN box without Mail quitting but the messages do not appear.

I can access all my mailboxes stored on my iMac and send mail provided I do not attempt to open the IN box.
