Late 2013 MacBook Pro, macOS Catalina 10.15.7, can't upgrade to macOS Big Sur

Have a late 2013 MacBook Pro, currently running macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

This device is supposed to be compatible for upgrade to macOS Big Sur, per publications and the App Store, however when selecting 'System Preferences,' it states "Your Mac is up to date -- macOS Catalina 10.15.7".

And...of course, attempts to "get" macOS Big Sur directly from the App Store fail and give the message "Update not found. The requested version of macOS is not available".

Issue was solved with mid-December release of Big Sur. My MacBook Pro late 2013 which I couldn't upgrade to previous Big Sur versions has been successfully upgraded to 11.1 last week. All OK and happy to see there is even no impact on performance.

You are lucky you were not able to install it, you could have been one of these:

Your mac has been temporarily blocked, so it does not get bricked with the upgrade.

Your supportedBoardIDs – Mac-189A3D4F975D5FFC was removed from macOS Big Sur.app 11.0.1 (20B50)

This means that for now you will not be able to install macOS Big Sur on your 2013 or 2014 13″ MacBook Pro until Apple sorts through some associated issue.

To verify you can see your boardID from the Terminal.app copy & paste:

ioreg -l | awk -F\" '/board-id/ { print $4 }'
