Plain old ftp

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to use the plain command line ftp to retrieve a bunch of my files from earthlink.net.

I added my user name, "rrs" to ...etc/ftpusers and chown'ed it back to root. when I tried to run

ftp this is what happend:

sh-3.2# ftp

sh: ftp: command not found

sh-3.2# whoami

root

sh-3.2#

where did ftp go???

FTP Read only issue on Finder app I am currently experiencing an issue with the Finder app while attempting to connect to FTP, as it is not allowing me to write files i only have Read permissions. Although, I am able to connect to the same server with read-write access using third-party applications such as FileZilla, I am unable to establish a connection with write access using the Finder application. Classic FTP mentions Editing file - but does it have a Catalina Version? Does anybody know if the lastest paid-for version of ClassicFTP works on Catalina? I know FTP is old technology, but I have an old archived website of nothing but personal interest and KOMPOZER no longer works on Catalina to edit dead link. I notice that last year's paid for version of ClassicFTP mentions editing: "From NCH Software:Classic FTP Plus for Mac is an easy to use ftp client to view, manage, edit, upload, download and delete files from a remote server or network. " But I can't see any information or contact to ask if they have updated it to work on Catalina. I had the previous free non-editin version of FTP but it stopped working with Catalina of course..

ftp access on mac mini It seems I cannot access any ftp sites using either Safari or Firefox. I use a mac mini, latest version, I think. Right now I am "blaming" either my mac or my provider, and I am trying to narrow things down. Can anyone help?

I think command line ftp has not been included since High Sierra to improve security. Why not use a third party client and sftp?

I just downloaded from the gnu Inetutil. Then I run configure and make , now I all the command line internet toys
