New Mac mini using an old iMac for a display
I just bought a new Mac mini--can I run the new mini using my old (2009) iMac for the display? or do I need a new display? (I have a 2009 iMac 27"). Thanks everyone!

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support
The "Mac from 2019 or earlier" part is for Thunderbolt connections, and does not apply to the 2009 iMac that uses Mini DisplayPort. You will need a USB-C to. Mini DisplayPort cable, such as:
mophie USB-C Cable with Mini DisplayPort Connector - Apple (CA)

No, you need an external display for the Mac Mini.
I'll try this. What do you think though?...is the 2009 iMac 27 display good enough for the new mini running Big Sur? ...Thank you for your help!
Resolution is 2560 by 1440 pixels, which is half if a modern 5K 27" display. Also it's eleven years old and could die at any time. But for just the $50 cable it's a lot less than a new display.
