How do you get Dolby Digital sound using the Hulu app on the 4K AppleTv 4th gen? When I use the app on my Samsung tv I get Dolby digital, but using the app on the Apple TV I only get sound in PCM.
The Apple TV outputs audio as you have set for your Apple TV box. The default is Auto (Best quality: PCM Multichannel), optional alternatives are Dolby Digital 5.1 and Stereo.
PCM Multichannel is losslessly decoded from the source, which could be any of the supported formats and audio channel layouts. Don’t confuse it with PCM Stereo 2.0.
It has nothing to do with Apple or the Apple TV 4K settings. Set it to whatever you want and you won’t get Dolby digital. Hulu is stuck in the 00’s with sound quality. They support only a few devices with Dolby digital. Another sign of behind the times is the inability in there part to offer anything of significance in 4K and nothing at all in 4K HDR or DV.
