Garage Band not playing audio track

I have a Garage Band project with imported tracks. One is a piano midi, the other an AIFF recording of a vocal. When I click Play in Garage Band the piano plays, but the vocal is completely missing.

This is what Garage Band looks like.

What might have gone wrong? What can I do?

I was working on another project earlier today with no problem.

It looks like GarageBand lost track of where to output the sound.

Following the Reset GarageBand preferences steps in this support article resolved the problem:

Hey there JWaterworth,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re not hearing an audio track in GarageBand on your Mac. We’ll be happy to help with this.

If you remove the audio and import it again, does it work as expected then? Make sure you’re following the steps in this link when you import your file as well:

Import audio and MIDI files in GarageBand on Mac

We hope this helps.

Take care.
