My new iphone 12 is not holding a charge and is not getting anymore than 2 bars of service. I have a hard time sending text and making calls. I have not ever one time had 5g service. Is this an issue with the new iphones?

Check with your carrier about you getting 5G service and any problems you have with signal, making calls, and texting.
As far as battery, a new phone, if restored from the backup of an older phone, needs 24-28 hours to complete restore processes and reindex files. After that time, if you still experience battery issues, go to Settings>Battery and look at the list of apps there and see what is using the highest percentage of battery and start your troubleshooting there.
