I have the iPhone 8 . Will it be unusable with 5G? Any fixes other than buying a 12.

The iPhone 8 does not support 5G. However not all carriers have 5G yet, so your iPhone 8 is still a viable phone. Only the iPhone 12 series supports 5G at this time.
