I have an older wireless keyboard, model # A1314 (2 AA battery). I started using NIMH rechargable batteries in all of my devices. To my utter surprise, the keyboard would not function with these batteries. IS battery 1.2 voltage the cause? These batteries work fine with the trackpad and the 10-key add on.

You could have a weak or bad rechargeable battery.
Check the battery direction, test a different set of chargeable batteries, test it with a set of normal AA batteries.
That was it....I crumpled a tiny piece of foil, carefully dropped into the battery slot, place inserted the batteries, and voila...worked fine. And yes...the + profile on the alkaline batteries is more pronounced than the rechargeables.
With some batteries the bump on the + end is not tall enough to reach the recessed + contact in the keyboard. A small piece of crumpled metal foil dropped in there may fix it.
