The problem is different routers call it different things. Alternates include:

  • WPA2-PSK(AES)
  • WPA2-Personal
  • WPA2/WPA3


The ones to NOT use:

  • WEP
  • WPA/WPA2(AES)
  • WPA/WPA2-PSK(AES)
  • Any setting with TKIP anywhere in it


In theory any router manufactured or updated after 2004 should support WPA2, but the industry was slow to adjust to the new standard and as recently as 5 years ago some still only offered WPA/WPA2(AES), which is not secure because a WPA device can connect to it.
