Currently only a couple of BMW models.
Well, I did such a search, and the only one currently available is the BMW 8i. More are expected RSN (Real Soon Now).
And that is a question that other users in this user-to-user forum cannot possibly answer. If you want to ask Apple use the Contact Support link at the top of this page.
Although I don’t see the point, as it is harder to use then just walking up to my car and touching the door handle (with my key fob in my pocket) and opening it.
It sounds like a solution in search of a problem.
Main question is why is Apple behind Android on this? How can it be that Android provides support for the same functionality and Apple doesn’t?
you can spend 150K on a great car which is ready for it and you have to change your phone to an old fashioned Samsung and it works.... sad
and why can’t Apple provide an answer on when this functionality will be open for other vehicles beyond a couple of BMWs.
I guess I font need to explain what is the benefit of kit have to wear the key fob, but in case it serves you a couple of ideas:
Anyway very similar to any improvement in our day to day provided by technology displacing old fashioned elements.

Because you haven’t asked Apple. This is a user-to-user forum; Apple does not participate.
They probably won’t answer anyway, because it requires sensitive negotiations with auto manufacturers, who must provide software and hardware to support the functionality. But you can use the Contact Support link at the top of this page and ask.
As far as depending on just your iPhone and not carrying a key or key fob, what do you do when you discover that your battery is dead in a parking lot, and you need to unlock the car to get to the battery to jump start it? Or you give the car to a valet to park it; are you going to give the valet your iPhone? Likewise, when you drop it off for service? I can’t think of any situations where I would not carry my key fob with it’s built in backup mechanical key. Also, with the phone, you’ve got to take it out and hold it near the car’s handle. I don’t have to take my fob out of my pocket.
The CCC? Who are they? I'm only familiar with the Civilian Conservation Corps from the 1930's.

Carbon Copy Cloner from Bombich software.
How interesting, they are from the US according to their website, but the video they share has vehicles with European registration plates.
It is clear you don’t know this technology, do a simple search and you will get answers to all those questions. All of them already answered and working.
According to multiple sources, The CCC has selected a handful of car manufacturers, but the NFC readers (as part of Car Play) or additional door handle readers will need to be installed into the car. Newer BMW vehicles will start comming out but other car manufacturers won't have this available until 2022.
Have you tried to do a search for "vehicles compatible with apple car key"? There are a lot of them.
