Unremovable "Passwords..." floating button on Big Sur

Hello,

On newest version of macOS Big Sur (11.0.1) I experienced annoying "behavior" (or may be a bug?). So, when I attach my MacBook Pro to an external display, it will show floating "Passwords..." button and it's unremovable even though I switch from one app to another. I need to restart my MacBook Pro in order to get rid this button from the screen.

I appreciate any response to this issue. Thank you. :)

I don't know why this is happening, so I can't offer you a full answer. However, I have experienced the same problem and when closing down the "Keychain (Mobile Mouse Server)" process via the Activity Monitor it does disappear.

  • Applications → Utilities → Activity Monitor
  • Select the process you want to stop
  • Hit the Stop button at the top bar (small cross inside a circle)
  • Then select Quit when the options pop up.

In my case, it appears this is related to the 'Mobile Mouse Server' trying to confirm a privacy request for controlling my computer. You may find your issue relates to a different app, but it will still be a Keychain process you need to stop.

You could also check what apps you have allowed to control your computer under System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy (tab) → Accessibility

Allowing 'Mobile Mouse Server' control of my computer has (for now) stopped the "Passwords..." button from appearing anymore.

Thank you @marknotton for posting this solution. I just got a new Mini M1 and have been going crazy with this unremovable "passwords..." button that appears after waking from sleep. Have tried a few times with Apple support but got nowhere. Have been thinking to return the Mini because this is so frustrating and Apple was not helpful. But now I see that it's a Mobile Mouse issue. I hope the developer will fix this!
