Where's the accent menu gone?

The usual fix for this is

open Terminal app and type

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

and then restart.

If no luck, there are always the standard option key shortcuts

FWIW, Make sure Key Repeat in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard isn't set to off. That will turn off the accent menu.

I got the solution. I have Webroot Secure Anywhere and that's where the problem was. To solve, I clicked the Webroot icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and selected Pause Secure Keyboard Entry. Problem solved.

Pressing and holding the e key for example brings up the menu for me using the current version of Big Sur -- at least it does in Microsoft Word, the current version of Pages, or replying here using Chrome. Sorry I don't have any idea why your experience is different but knowing that it does work for some may help you narrow it down

Did you find a solution to this? Currently experiencing the same issue. I'm a modern language major so having the accents is very necessary for me. The accent menu worked perfectly fine on my 2017 MacBook Pro and now with this new 2020 with Big Sur, it's disappeared. No solution online (I've only seen 2) works.

I was actually just reading your other thread. FWIW, you should really uninstall Webroot. Antivirus apps are not needed and are known to cause various problems.

Trust me, I know! So it goes sometimes when you have no choice in a matter. Uninstalling right now.
