How can I confirm that my cancellation actually worked? First smartphone and learning. Did not care for Pandora and loaded my SiriusXM account instead.

If you started the subscription in iTunes, you can see its status as explained in here:
See or cancel your subscriptions - Apple Support
If you started it directly with Pandora, go to pandora.com, click your icon, then Settings, then Subscription, to see what it says.
